Adopt a Donkey from the Donkey Sanctuary

If you're looking for a gift for a donkey lover, then look no further than the Donkey Sanctuary!   They have a number of donkeys you can adopt as a gift, and they are thrilled to announce three new wonderful donkeys on their adoption scheme.

Donkey adoptions make fantastic gifts.   I adopted Moses for my parents as an anniversary gift.   For a couple who love donkeys, they were really pleased, and loved the updates they had on Moses.

Adoption packs include a framed portrait, four beautiful postcards, a certificate and your donkey’s story.  You'll also receive regular updates about your donkey.  You can follow their antics on Facebook and Twitter @AdoptADonkey pages, and use the fun Memory Maker app where you can add your donkey to any one of your photos!

You can choose a donkey to adopt from one of several centres in the UK - Birmingham, Leeds, Sidmouth, Manchester, Ivybridge or Belfast. The new donkeys available for adoption - Ashley, Ruby and Gareth - are all based in Sidmouth.  You can find out more about them below.

Adopting a donkey is easy.  You can either adopt a donkey onlineor call 01395 573133.

Adoptions are for one year. And you'll be helping the Donkey Sanctuary to care for these gentle, beautiful donkeys - all for just 7p a day!

Adopt Ashley

Meet Ashley

Ashley was born in 2009 right at the beautiful Sidmouth Sanctuary!   Sadly, his mother - who was pregnant at the time she arrived at the sanctuary - died at the birth and little Ashley was an orphan.  The staff fed Ashley with a bottle aided by a rota and advice from the onsite veterinary team.  Today, Ashley is a happy, fun-loving chap who wins the hearts of everyone he meets.  He loves playing with two good friends, Mr Khan and Zena - the three were introduced to each other in thier early days.  Ashley's favourite time of the day is grooming time - he's been known to pick up a brush and start grooming Mr Khan as well!

Adopt Gareth

Meet Gareth

Gareth is the smallest of these three donkeys but this little fellow acts like a true leader and king of the herd, with the other donkeys all in tow.  His best mate is called Benji, and the two love tearing around the paddock.   Gareth loves spending time with people.   He has a cataract but he is receiving the care he needs and this fiesty donkey doesn't let it get the better of him.  He loves being groomed now - and even enjoys attention and visits from the farrier!

Adopt Ruby

Meet Ruby

Ruby just loves to be noticed and seeks all sorts of mischief to get attention.   She is very intelligent, and gets up to all sorts of things - dumping an empty bucket at your feet to ask for a feed or sidling up to you and resting her muzzle on your shoulder.  She is particularly good at unbolting door locks and helping the webcam maintenance man by holding his ladder.  She also helps the vet by running off with his stethoscope!  Despite all her mischievous ways, Ruby is much loved and quickly forgiven! Ruby comes from Blackpool and was hand-reared by her previous owners, as her mother rejected her, so this lovely donkey particularly loves humans and attention from them.

Adopt Ruby

The Donkey Sanctuary was founded in 1969 by the late Dr Elisabeth Svendsen, MBE.   Since the charity was founded, it has cared for over 12,000 donkeys and it works around the world to improve donkey welfare.  Its charity number is 264818.
